Games Workshop and Armorcast buildings
(Completed 5/10)
This project incorporated the Imperial Sector building sprues and the large Skyshield Landing Pad produced by Games Workshop, as well as a large assortment of Armorcast items. Added the the building sprues were several extra panels I cut from styrene sheets expanding the size of the buildings somewhat. Each building is mounted on a 12" x 12" base and features matching rubble piles of sufficient size to provide additional line of site and movement variations.
The challenge with a project of size is determining the level of detail to 'pick' out on the buildings without taking too much time and adding too much visual clutter. I opted to spend an hour a base for exclusively picking out these details which ended up limiting the time spent highlighting some of the details (the Skyshield pad was the exception as it took several coats of white and yellow to adequately cover the prominent top surface). But, before finishing I decided to try out new weathering powders on the buildings to add rust, blastmarks, and general dirt and grim. This is the first large project to feature this technique and I was very pleased with the added effects. The powders prove to be much more controllable than using spraypaint for scorch marks and blending the powders over some areas really added a signicant of realistic 'wear and tear' on the surfaces.
