Dark Tower of Dol Guldur - $90

For this project, the customer provided me with the below photograph of the dark tower of Dol Guldur which appears in the Fall of the Necromancer supplement for the Lord of the Rings game produced by Games Workshop.

When I began work on this model, I reviewed the information on the Games Workshop site and it seemed to indicate that an additional building (a mausoleum) might be included in scenarios in the supplement. I decided to leave the top of the tower detached, allowing the bottom section to be a stand alone model allowing the customer more flexibility in its use. The model shown below sits on a 10" x 20" base and has a combined height of just over 17".

A particular challenge in painting structures of this type is shading the surface when it is exceptionally smooth. (The model is constructed from foam core as per usual GW modeling of buildings.) To meet this challenge, this building received a new technique of applying a very fine grain to the surface to pick up paint, while still remaining to scale.
