Tall Grass and Large Lake Boardset - $375

This 9 piece board set was designed to have a large lake bordered by a tree line, a deep unkempt grassy field and a wide road seperating the two. Each board is 20" x 10" making a combined set that spans 60" x 30".

The newest facet of this set was the tall grass section. Originally the customer wanted chest high grasses for 28mm models which would be played in skirmish scenarios primarily. The plan was to create deep grass sections that would be moveable but decorating the board with foliage and tufts of grass would limit their placement so they were discarded from the plans and instead the boards would be directly planted. Grasses of the heights requested are difficult to place and allow for models to be placed on them, or to have movement trays placed on them. As a compromise for playability, it was decided to use shorter grasses to model the effect a little more abstractly. This allowed the use of a product called Silflor which is produced by Scenic Express. These are ready formed tufts of grass that are glued directly to the surface of the layout. Their main advantage is that they have a very realistic rounded tuft appearance that helps to add variety to the visual appearance of the foliage while being very durable for play. The largest tufts available were used for this set and other grasses and clump foliage were added to provide for taller grasses. The density was faded as it approached the lake side of the set.
