Wadi for 15mm Flames of War - $240

This piece is a 5 piece modular set that models a Wadi for 15mm WWII African campaigns. A wadi is a dry gully found in North Africa which features steep sides with sparse vegetation.

The customer requested openings to the gully on each side of the board and that the boards have variations and curves allowing for multiple configurations. The set comprises 2 boards with wide central openings, 2 boards with sharper/tighter curves and an end cap. This set was made with tapering sides and so was based on plywood for added strength. Each board measures 30 cm x 50 cm, providing a full 150 cm long gully when placed together. The gully is 5 cm deep and ranges in width between 6 cm and 11 cm.

This customer requested that the wadi match his existing desert terrain. He shipped me an example piece from his terrain collection and it is shown as the circular piece with the grassy center in the 4th photo below. The match in color and texture ended up very close, with the Wadi having a slightly more glossy sheen due to the clear coat finish to protect its surface.

To add to the tactical variations and the overall visual appeal of the piece, I added a few clusters of rocks with vegetation on each board as well as foliage within the wadi itself to complete the look. Because this model is intended for use with 15mm models, the vegetation and rocks were scaled down slightly to better match the models.
