TerranScapes ~ Playing Surfaces

Made of crushed felt, this premium heavy cloth features a beautiful mottled green color and was selected from a local factory to match the TerranScape product line. Much easier to store than game boards, this cloth ties together your terrain and provides a quality playing surface. The cloth is somewhat wrinkle resistant but please see the Care and Storage section for more information.

With the spray application, some wrinkling is likely but can be ironed out. Please see the Care and Storage section for more information. TerranScapes game boards set a new standard in terrain playing surfaces. Their modular design allows for countless variations of layouts. Inspired by the tables of Games Workshop, they provide the home gamer an opportunity to play on a premium surface. They are shipped in boxes suitable for storage and transportation after purchase, making them convenient to own and bring to outside gaming events.

These boards are finished with high quality flocking and scaled vegetation that is placed in such a manner as to be protected by the topography of the board when stored. Sunken rivers, talus at the bottom of cliffs, tall grasses, diverse bushes and shrubs, and beautiful water effects make these boards the pinnacle of terrain realism for miniature gamers. Their carefully designed layout creates the maximum versatility in miniature gaming surfaces being offered today.

Each of the following standard boards is 10" x 20" (25 cm x 50 cm). A 10" x 10" board allows for better configurations to match the needs of conventional playing areas.

In the composite photos for each board, various possible configurations are show. Each was produced using a single set of ten or twelve boards. Some of the photos include extra terrain for scale and layout ideas. These photos show only a limited selection of the hundreds of possible arrangements.

Please also note that these boards are constructed from extruded polystyrene insulation boards. These boards have some minor variations in their thickness (1/16" - 1/8") due to compression in shipping. A set of foam shims are sent with each board set allowing the owner to raise the few corners that may sit below grade producing a flush gaming surface.

Hill Board

Features a large 1" (2.5cm) high hill with at least one impassable side modeled as a cliff with talus.
The hills now have a newer improved rock face.

Canyon Board

Features two 1" (2.5cm) high hills, each with one impassable side modeled as a cliff with talus. The cliffs face each other forming a canyon.
The canyons now have a newer improved rock face.

Difficult Terrain Board

Features numerous small rock outcroppings set towards one side of the board. Rocks are cast in UltraCal30 from detailed molds. Distance between the outcroppings and number of rocks varies.

Rock Board

Features 3 rock outcroppings set towards one side of the board. Rocks are cast in UltraCal30 from detailed molds. Distance between the outcroppings and number of rocks varies.

River Board - Straight Section

Features a river flowing the length of the board and sunk into the surface, surrounded by a flood plain. The section has one shallow fording area with water modeled as flowing over and around the rocks. River varies from 2" to 3.5" wide.

River Board - Corner Bend

Features a river making a 90 degree bend in one corner. River varies from 2" to 3." wide.

Features a river traversing the length of the board before making a 90 degree bend towards the left. River varies from 2" to 3.5" wide.

River Board - Right Bend

Features a river traversing the length of the board before making a 90 degree bend towards the left. The section has one shallow fording area with water modeled as flowing over and around the rocks. River varies from 2" to 3.5" wide.

Marsh Board

Features a boggy marsh roughly 8" x 12" (20 x 30 cm) in size. Marsh is generously covered in vegetation and reeds and features a muddy water coating. Marsh is recessed into the board to protect the vegetation when stored, and to add realism.

Pond Board

Features a pond roughly 8" x 12" (20 x 30 cm) in size. Pond shoreline is generously covered in vegetation and reeds and features a mottled deep blue water coating. Pond is recessed into the board to protect the vegetation when stored, and to add realism.

Cratered Board

Features three craters which vary in size from 3" (4.5cm) to 1.5" (3.75cm) across. Craters are surrounded by rubble and a sprinkling of vegetation. Craters are usually placed close enough to each other to allow models to occupy more than one crater and maintain unit coherence.

10" Square Board

This board allows for the creation of regularly sized tables. Please see the description above for playing surface sizes made with this board.

10" Square River Cap Board

This board allows for the creation of regularly sized tables while allowing for the termination of the river at any point on the board. Please see the description above for playing surface sizes made with this board.

Chasm Board

Board features a 8" x 3" wide chasm across its width. The chasm is 1" deep and features a flat black bottom..

Waterfall Board

Board features a 6" tall, two tier waterfall. Board is 10" x 10" and is designed for a table edge placing. A video of the waterfall can be seen on YouTube.

These boards feature a bold new look suitable for sci-fi themed games on offworlds. The landforms are modeled on naturally occurring buttes found in the desert South West of the United States. These buttes make an excellent landform for sci-fi gaming as they have a level top that allows for models to be placed on them easily, and a tall shape that provides tactically and visually interesting gaming. These boards are created in a similar manner to the original game boards found at the top of this page. The new rivers are wider (4") and deeper (1") making the set even more realistic to scale for 28mm play.

This board is designed to fit into the corner of the layout. The mine 'hill' is 3" high and features the same detailing as the buttes.
